Afrikaans: Kruismerksandslang
Look for:
  • Silver-grey to olive brown back
  • Broad, brown black-edged dorsal stripe, similar stripe on flank with white lower border
  • Dark-edged cream-yellow crossbars on head
  • Yellow-orange belly

A quick alert snake, wriggles wildly when caught but rarely bites when molested.

Food

Frogs, lizards and small rodents.

Reproduction

Oviparous. Lays 6-12 eggs in midsummer which hatch in 45 days. Young are 195mm long.

Predatory birds and other snakes.

Habitat

Found in moist savanna.
