Average Length:  50 cm. Names in other languages
Afrikaans: Oostelike Kousbandslang.
Look for:
  • Moderately rounded snout
  • Dark-coloured body
  • Pale cross bands, narrower tan dark ones



Distribution


Venom Type:  Not of consequence. The consequences of a bite will not be serious, merely a moderate amount of pain and stiffness in bitten limb, radiating upwards but clearing up after a few hours.

Habits

Slow moving and seldom seen unless unearthed or found under cover.

Food

Burrowing snakes, lizards and small moles.

Reproduction

Oviparous. Lays 4-10 eggs in early summer.

Other snakes and predatory birds.

Arid and mesic savanna.
